NEW LONDON, Conn. – Rene Hudson had 25 of her game-high 38 points in the second half as the Pilgrims rallied from a 15-point first half deficit using a 14-0 second half run to beat Coast Guard 81-70 in a non-conference game.
Hudson and Asia Jones (15 points) had 38 of the Pilgrims 52 second half points in win. Mariah Thomas added 10 points while Kayla Goldring had a game-high 11 rebounds in the win.
New England College improves to 11-4 while Coast Guard had its three game win streak snapped and dropped 11-4 in the first meeting between the two teams since the 2008-'09 season.
Emma Puddington had a career-high 22 points and team-high 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season to lead Coast Guard. Annabella Farabaugh added 16 points while Breanna Wood finished with 10 for the Bears.
New England College shot 43.8 percent in the win (32-73) and were 19-37 (51.3 percent) in the second half. The Pilgrims were 6 of 18 from 3-point range on the night.
Coast Guard shot 37.1 percent (23-62) and made 8 of 22 from behind the arc.
The Bears used a 15-0 run in the first half turning a 10-10 into a 25-10 lead with 9:06 left in the first half. Coast Guard led 38-29 at the half.
Coast Guard led 58-51 with 47 seconds left in the third quarter before New England College took the lead for good using a 14-0 run to open up a 65-58 lead with 5:23 left. Hudson and Jones had 10 of the 14 points in the run.
The Bears are back in action on Saturday when they open New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) against Springfield at Western New England University at 2:00.
